About

This is an outlet to talk about television and to spare those who have for so long politely listened to me ramble aloud about this or that show.  I also really enjoy writing but often lack inspiration or creativity and the nature of television and constant new episodes provide a bottomless source of material.  These writings have evolved over the years from forum reading to recap reading to g-chat and Wikipedia marathons following Lost episodes to occasional e-mail chains sent to small groups of people to this current form.

I got a DVR in early 2009 and it, obviously, changed how I watched television. I could start watching Mad Men, now that I didn't have to be tethered to my tv at the exact time and place.  I could start watching The Daily Show again and not have to stay up past 11 on a school night.  I probably don't watch more television than before but I do watch better television and I watch it more purposefully.  Kind of like how I buy steaks at Trader Joe's now instead of eating whatever Peapod needs to get rid of to clear its inventory.

It is a great time to be watching television via whatever vehicle you choose to watch it.  And you can even watch television without owning a tv or paying for a cable provider, by doing it via tablet, computer, and video services like Amazon, Netflix or iTunes.

I have only a few hobbies and watching television is one of them.  That used to sound ridiculous but the quality of shows today is so high that watching television does qualify now.   Other hobbies include talking about television and reading about television.  In short, there is too much great literature out there being delivered in the form of television shows to not talk about it at length.

What You'll Find in the Blog

Episode summaries can already be found in approximately infinity places on the Internets, so do not expect to find a recap of the show you just watched.  Rather, I may focus on a scene or a character that stood out, or talk about plotting, foreshadowing, and guess what's coming, as well as highlight previous events that have long reaching impact.

It will seem like I think every show is good.  That is because rather than criticize shows* I do not like, I would rather discuss the ones I watch and enjoy.  I can't write about every show I watch, so that narrows it down to my absolute favorites which I think will lend themselves to interesting write ups.

* There is also a huge difference between stating a show is inferior and realizing a show merely does not align with one's personal taste or expectations.  While there is overlap, it's presumptuous to use these interchangeably.

Episode Posts
These follow the airing of a particular episode and are thoughts, musings, observations and reactions from recently aired episodes.  They are not recaps or summaries or even analysis of episodes, but a follow up that may highlight significant events or focus on a few in particular.  The thoughts behind the posts have not been subjected to biased by reading other summaries, recaps or analysis and generally go up within a day or so of the episode.
  • Typically in bullet form
  • These posts are largely subjective and based on opinion and do not claim to be the end-all-be-all authority.
  • Best read in concert having recently watched the episode, as it will contain plenty of seemingly out of context information
  • I am terrible at remembering character names so I may use a descriptive substitute instead
Other Stuffs
  • Information on acting, writing and directing credits is taken from imdb.com
  • Another source I use a lot to explain tropes is tvtropes.org
